Chuck Jackson is an American R&B singer, who achieved hits with the songs ‘I Don't Want to Cry’, (the evergreen), ’Any Day Now’, and, later, with the Ian Levine based U.K. imprint with the song ‘All Over the World’, in the late Eighties.
He was also one of the first artists to record successful material with Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
Chuck hails from Latta, South Carolina, and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
In the late Fifties, he was a member of The Del-Vikings.
Chuck then came to the attention of Luther Dixon when he opened for Jackie Wilson at the Apollo Theater.
His earliest recording was a collaboration with Kripp Johnson, for the Dot Records imprint in 1957, entitled ‘Woke Up This Morning’ b/w ‘Willette’.

This led to a recording contract with the Scepter Records imprint, Wand Records.
In 1960, Chuck released the single, entitled ‘I Don't Want to Cry’ b/w ‘Just Once’.
The record charted on both the R&B and pop charts.
The following year, his recording of the Burt Bacharach-Bob Hilliard song ‘Any Day Now’ b/w ‘The Prophet’, established the singer, the track becoming something of a signature song for him.
Chuck then switched labels in 1968, from Scepter to Motown Records.
He went on to release several sides for the label, including ‘Honey Come Back’ b/w ‘What Am I Gonna Do Without You’.
Chuck departed Motown in 1970, and began recording for Dakar and A.B.C. Records.
He later recorded for the All Platinum imprint, amongst others.
In 1989, he recorded with the U.K. based producer, Ian Levine, for his Motorcity imprint, releasing ‘All Over The World’ (a track popular on the Robbie Vincent radio show at the time).
He later collaborated with the the songwriter and promoter, Charles Wallert, recording the mis-tempo ‘How Long Have You Been Loving Me’ for the Carolina Records imprint.
In 1998, he collaborated with Dionne Warwick, recording ‘If I Let Myself Go’.
The follow-up release ‘What Goes Around, Comes Around’, reached number 13 on the local charts.
In October 2015, Chuck Jackson was inducted into the Official Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame.
Chuck Jackson died in February 2023.
